내가 살고 있는 광주만 해도 여기저기 재개발하는 곳이 많아지면서, 옛것 그리고 우리의 전통문화가 많이 사라지고 있는 것 같아 안타까운 마음에 우리 문화를 체험하고자 여행을 떠났다. 2018년 5월, 주말을 이용해 나는 외할아버지, 어머니와 함께 전주 한옥마을을 향했다.

  전주 한옥마을은 전라북도 전주시 완산구의 풍남동과 교동 일원에 위치해 있는 한옥마을이다. 우리 일행은 자가용을 타고 전주에 도착했지만 조금 헤맸고 미리 예약해둔 숙소를 겨우 찾게 되었다. 지금까지 한번도 경험해보지 못한 한옥집에서 잠을 잔다는 것에 마음이 많이 흥분되어 있었지만, 도착한 한옥집은 내 예상을 빗나가서 아주 조그마했다.

  드라마에서 보았던 으리으리한 기와집, 대청마루, 고즈넉한 정원, 잔잔한 연못 등 내 머릿속에 펼쳐지는 상상의 전경이 한 순간에 실망으로 바뀌었다. 마루에는 사람들에게 한복을 대여해주기 위해 남녀 한복들이 즐비하게 진열되어 있었고, 방으로 들어가니 창문 없는, 말 그대로 우리 셋이서 누우면 돌아누울 수도 없는 좁은 온돌방이었다. 어머니는 호텔보다 더 비싼 방인데 하며 아쉬워하셨고, 주말이고 성수기라서 그런 것 같다고 하셨다. 하지만 나는 이런 경험도 색다르겠다 싶어 한옥마을을 좀 더 체험해보기로 했다.

  짐을 풀고 마을 구석구석을 살펴보기로 했다. 주말이라 그런지 문을 닫은 곳이 몇 군데 있어서 아쉽기는 했지만, 우리는 멋진 한복을 빌려서 모두 입고 전동성당을 비롯하여 경기전, 한옥마을 거리를 활보하였다. 우리 전통문화를 몸소 체험한 것이다.

  무엇보다 놀란 것은 여기저기 전통가락, 창 등을 공연하는 모습들이었다. 너무 재미있어서 우리는 시간가는 줄 모르고 전통음악을 즐겼다. 어쩜 이렇게 흥이 나는지..어깨가 저절로 춤을 춘다.

  전주에서 또 빼놓을 수 없는 것이 바로 ‘비빔밥’일 것이다. 우리는 전주비빔밥, 전주콩나물국밥, 전주한식을 먹으며 먹거리 문화를 즐겼다.

  이 여행을 통해 느낀 것이 참 많다. 좋은 점도 있고 아쉬운 점도 있다.

  좋은 점은 우리의 전통음악, 전통한복, 전통한옥 등을 즐길 수 있다는 점이 무척 흥미로웠다. 아쉬운 점은 성수기 때마다 극성인 바가지 요금과 한옥집이 관리가 잘 안되고 있다는 점이었다. 이러한 점을 고려해서 우리나라도 앞으로 더욱더 많은 문화컨텐츠를 발굴해 우리의 대표 음식, 대표 공연, 대표 한옥 등이 개발되어서 지역의 명소, 명품으로 발전되었으면 하는 바람이다. 돌아오는 길은 저절로 ‘덩덩덕 쿵덕’이 흥얼거려졌다.

As Gwangju, where I live, has many places to redevelop, I have traveled to experience our culture with the sad feeling that the old ones and our traditional culture are disappearing. On the weekends of May 2018, I went to Jeonju Hanok Village with my grandfather and mother.

Jeonju Hanok Village is a hanok village located in Pungnam-dong and Gyo-dong, Wansan-gu, Jeonju city, Jeollabukdo. Our group arrived in Jeonju by car, but we found it a little bit and finally found a pre-booked accommodation. I was thrilled to sleep in a hanok house that I had never experienced before, but the arrived hanok house was very small because it missed my expectations.

Imaginary views in my head turned into disappointment at the moment such as the spectacle tile house, the grand ridge, the quiet garden and the calm pond that I saw in the drama. On the floor there were many hanboks for men and women to rent hanboks to the people, and when they entered the room, there was a small ondol room without windows, literally three of us lying down. My mother regretted that she had a more expensive room than a hotel, and that she felt it was the weekend and high season. However, I wanted to experience Hanok Village more because I wanted to experience this different.

I unpacked and decided to explore every corner of town. It was a pity that there were a few places closed because it was a weekend, but we rented all of the nice hanboks and wore all the electric chapels and the streets before the game and Hanok Village. It is a personal experience of our traditional culture.

What surprised me was the performances of traditional melodies and spears. It was so fun that we didn't know how to go and enjoyed traditional music. How is this exciting? The shoulders dance on their own.

Another thing that cannot be missed in Jeonju is 'bibimbap'. We enjoyed the food culture by eating Jeonju Bibimbap, Jeonju Bean Sprouts Soup Rice, and Jeonju Korean Food.

There are so many things that I have felt through this trip. There are also good and regrettable things.

The great thing was that we could enjoy our traditional music, traditional hanbok and traditional hanok. It was a pity that the polar fees and the hanok house were not managed well every season. Considering this point, we hope that Korea will discover more cultural contents in the future and develop our representative foods, representative performances, and representative hanoks. On the way back, “Dong Dung Duk Kung Duk” was humming.
